Re-Defining Work Life Balance Struggle....Instead Embrace Harmony!

Work-Life Balance is impossible!

I keep hearing people talk about work-life balance where we strive for an elusive equilibrium between our work commitments and our personal life, yet in reality find it to be a struggle. 

Many have the stresses and demands of their work/career while trying to maintain sanity with the needs of kids, pets, soccer practice, keeping the house clean, figuring out what to fix for dinner not just one day, but seven days of the week. Not to mention the pressure of taking care of personal needs like physical, mental health and sleep!  

As a mindset confidence coach, I’ve had the privilege of guiding numerous individuals like yourself through the intricate journey of balancing life and work demands. However, through my experience and observations, I’ve come to realize that the conventional concept of “work-life balance” does not fully capture the essence of what we truly aim for.

Here’s why:

“Balance” implies an equal distribution of time and energy, which can often lead to feelings of guilt or inadequacy when one aspect inevitably demands more attention than the other. It sets  unrealistic expectations and can foster a set of frustration when we fail to meet them. Honestly, how long can a scale stay in balance?  One slight thing on one side or the other can throw things all off.

Instead, I invite you to think about replacing” balance” with “harmony.”  Harmony suggests a more fluid and dynamic relationship between work and life. It acknowledges that there will be movements when one aspect takes precedence over the other, and that ‘s perfectly okay.  What matters most is the ability to integrate these various facets of our lives in a way that promotes overall well-being and fulfillment.  

Instead of starving to keep work and life separate entities, let’s aim to align them in a way that complements and enriches each other.  

In a world where change is the only constant .  Why not strive for harmony and peace in our life?   This could mean setting boundaries, prioritizing tasks and practicing self-care rituals that nourish both our professional ambition and personal happiness. What small thing could you do today to bring more harmony into your life? 

By embracing the concept of work-life harmony, we empower ourselves to live authentically and with intention, fostering a sense of fulfillment that transcends traditional notions of success.

I encourage you to reflect on how you can cultivate a greater harmony in our own life and work endeavors.  Remember, it’s not about achieving a perfect balance, but rather about embracing the ebb and flow of life with grace and resilience.
